Barrier D Sheep Dip repels all known ectoparasites for up to six weeks. The spent material can be spread on to land - well away from watercourses without the need for license. Suitable for use in Organic Farming Systems. Fully HSE approved - Licence No. 8721. Safety: Barrier D Sheep Dip does not contain O.Ps. S.Ps. or organic acids. The product is entirely non-toxic, non-irritant, being kind to the environment, the user and the animal and very suitable for use in organic farming systems. Uses: Barrier D Sheep Dip repels all known ectoparasites for up to six weeks depending on wet weather conditions. Animals need to be a reasonably healthy condition i.e. - no scouring, foot rot or injuries. Fully HSE Approved: Full HSE Approval - Licence No 8721: In accordance with the Biocidal Products Directive, regulations require any product which holds itself out as any form of repellent to secure an approval and licence number from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). This approval requires the active ingredient (Ai) to be listed on the label together with the amount of Ai being used. In April, 2006 Barrier Animal Healthcare secured the necessary approval. Licence number 8721. Dilution Rate: Dilute 1 part product to 100 parts water. The top-up rate is the same dilution 1:100. Ensure that the bath is very well mixed. Suitable for use in Organic Farming Systems: Barrier D Sheep Dip falls into the exempt category of products which use only plant oils as active ingredients, as listed in Annexe IIB (Pesticides) of Council Regulation (EEC) No 2092/91 (as amended) and can therefore be used in organic farming systems. Meat Withdrawal: Sheep due for slaughter can be dipped as there is NO meat withdrawal period. Blowfly - Maggots: Barrier D will not rid the animal of all maggots. However, our Blowfly Repel works brilliantly where there is a maggot problem and should be used as a back-up to Barrier D Sheep Dip. Ready to use, Blow Fly Repel can be applieds directly to maggots and raw areas. Maggots will quickly bubble to the surface of the fleece and fall away. It protects and soothes raw areas and so aid natural healing. Swift action is needed by farmers to prevent Blowfly strike. Blowfly strike is a very distressing complaint for an animal and can cause the death of affected animals. Blowfly normally strike sheep during the summer months and lambs and unshorn sheep tend to be at greater risk. Although Blowfly strike can occur virtually anywhere in the country, they tend not to affect areas of high altitude, prefering the more sheltered areas, such as woodland, riverside especially on sunny, showery and humid days between April and October. (See 'Blowfly Repel') Dirty Fleeces & Foot Rot: Barrier D will not stand up to very dirty fleeces, scouring or foot rot. We suggest that your trim their back ends prior to dipping and use our other sheep products as a back up. See Fungicidal Foot Spray and Bath, Blowfly Repel. Foot Rot : The pungent and rotten smell of foot rot is an attraction to Blowfly. Apply plenty of 'Fungicidal Foot Spray' to the whole foot where animals have been struck under the horn. See 'Fungicidal Foot Spray.' Wet Weather: Care must be taken during constant wet weather conditions as Barrier D will eventually wash out of the fleece. Ideal Conditions For Bathing: Each animal must have at least three weeks wool growth so that Barrier D can be well absorbed and hold into the fleece.
Making Up The Bath: The dipping tanks must be thoroughly cleaned. All traces of chemical treatments previously used must be removed, because Barrier D is made from entirely natural ingredients and will be rendered ineffective if it comes into contact with any chemical treatment.
Bathing The Sheep: Thoroughly stir the bath. Follow standard dipping technique. Lower the sheep in tail end first. Ensure the sheep stay in for one minute, and use a crutch to duck the head under. Although the sheep to dry naturally in dry preferably sunny conditions. Sheep Showers: Barrier D Sheep Dip is NOT recommended for use in sheep showers. Only by total immersion for one minute can you ensure full coverage necessary to be effective. Endorsements: 'No dipping problems on our farm - We continue to use Barrier D Sheep Dip with confidence and will be putting a thousand sheep and lambs through the wash next week (Aug).' - Jeff Swift, Kendal, Cumbria.
